Mobile features that actually matter
Push odds & notifications: good apps ping you when a price you're watching moves, when a live market opens, or when your bet settles — handy without being spammy. Cash-out: full lets you settle the whole bet early, partial lets you take some off the table, and auto cash-out triggers at a value you set. One-tap bet slip: on live markets, seconds count, so a slip that accepts fast (and warns you clearly when the price has shifted) is worth a lot. Live streaming: great when it's there, but it's the data-heavy feature — use Wi-Fi. For the full in-play picture, see our live betting guide.
Payments on mobile
TAB NZ's app runs on NZD debit cards, bank transfer and online banking. The international apps here typically add Visa and Mastercard, bank transfer, Neosurf, e-wallets like MiFinity and Jeton, and Bitcoin and other crypto. Depositing and withdrawing from the app is the norm now. Timing once verified: crypto ~10 minutes to 1 hour, e-wallets same-day to 24 hours, cards 1–3 business days. Do your KYC on the app early so it doesn't hold up your first cash-out.
Are betting apps legal in New Zealand?
Betting is legal for you, but only TAB NZ holds the domestic monopoly on sports and racing betting — it's the only operator legally licensed to take your bet inside New Zealand, and its apps (including betcha) are the only locally licensed ones. The 2025 legislation makes it illegal for offshore bookmakers to take bets from within NZ, with geo-blocking rolling out from 2026, which is why names like Bet365 and Stake have pulled back. The international apps here are not NZ-licensed and we won't pretend otherwise. The legal age is 18.
